I hope that all of ya'll are having a great New Years celebration. I am currently still recovering from the worst case of the Flu ever, and am far from having it go away. Anyways, I can't sleep any more than an hour or two at a time, so I just figured I'd share this retarded conversation that I had with a Honda Civic Type RTTWYR owner. This is not exactly what we said, but are atleast close to what i can remember. Also, it was atleast funny to me thinking back on it, however, it may be one those "had to be there things," but just blame that on all of the medication I am on for theis Flu :) He was in a local car meet and we happened to start talking about our cars that were both not there. I talked about mine, we got each other's names, and then he started talking about his. HIM: Oh man Mike, if I come up with $1800 by January man, I'm going to own the only full carbon fiber bodied Honda Civic in Texas!
ME: Full Carbon Fiber body?
HIM: yea dude! Everything!
ME: Aren't those car's a uni body type frame? How are you going to make the frame out of CF?
HIM: Ummm.....yea. Well I didn't mean the full body, I meant like every panel and stuff! It is going to be the hood, the hatch, the doors, and the sun roof! It's going to be awesome and save me a lot of weight man!
ME: Yea, I bet that would save you a decent amount of weight. Where did you find these panels for that kind of price?
HIM: Oh, well me and a buddy of mine are going to make them ourselves.
ME: make them yourselves?! I've worked with CF, building little trinkets to sell and crap, and it is not an easy thing to work wqith especially to make a fully functional panel out of...have you ever used the stuff before?
HIM: No, but I've laid fiberglass down once, so I know I can do it!
ME: *confused look on face*
HIM: Oh yea, and it isn't going to be the actual full panel anyways.
ME: *wtf look on my face* What do you mean?
HIM: We are going to fill the panels with resin, then cut the door skins off and same for the trunk and stuff, then use the resin as a template to replace the skins with carbon fiber.
ME: *I'm shocked look on face*Oh, so it really won't be the full panels? How much weight do you think this will save?
HIM: No, but it should still save a lot of weight man.
ME: You are just replacing all the skins though right? Nothing else?
HIM: Yea
ME: I hate to say this man, but you are not going to save much weight with your car doing this...you are just going to make your car's body weaker, and you won't loose much weight either...you are going to end up ruining your car trust me man.
HIM: Na..it'll save lots of weight, plus it'll look awesome too.
ME: You really think you can make the panels look smooth and good?
HIM: Yea, and the carbong fiber will look really good too!
ME: Wait..you aren't going to paint them?
HIM: No ways! Why would I paint carbon fiber?
ME: Personally I don't like carbon fiber on the outside of cars, plus when you lay it down, even if you ever get done with this, I can guarantee the weaving will look like absolute shit man. Please , just paint it, if you even still consider doing this to your car.
HIM: No ways, that would defeat the purpose.
ME: Wait...I thought the purpose was weight reduction?
HIM: Well yea..that too.
ME: *at this point, I'm just amazed, and we talk for a littl elonger, and I start then walking away, hopefully to never see this guy again* Anyways, so basically, he first talks about a full body CF Honda, then, it goes to a full CF paneled Honda, then it goes to a couple door and trunk skins carbon fiber Honda...basically nothing special. Also, during the conversation, it went from a major concern on weight, to a major concern on the CF look. Also, he kept talking about how badly he wants to be in a magazine too. To top it all off, right before he talked about the CF body shit, he was telling me about his custom headlights that he made from..get this...out of bondo and bent plastic, with red and blue halos around the head lights. I shit you not, that is what he told me. Anyways, I did get his e-mail at the meet and am going to get him to send me pictures of the headlights. I gotta see this to believe it! I will post the pictures when I get them too :) Anyways, I hope this entertained someone. If it dodn't I'm sorry, I thought it was funny, but that is probably because of the niquil, TheraFlu, Echnacha, Advil and Cough Medicine I am on right now (higher than a kite). Anyways, be safe ya'll. Z relation...My right rear quarter panel is almost now done on the fenderflaring project, and the fog ducts are blended in. About 25% done so far...still MUCH more to go, but it's going
